Fasten on the belt of truth. – Ephesians 6:14
The analogy in Ephesians 6:10-20 compares the uniform of a soldier to spiritual life in Christ. Today’s verse is the first piece of the soldier’s outfit, the belt of truth. A little research shows that this piece was not to hold up the soldier’s garment, but to hold his weaponry. His belt held his sword, which in the analogy is the Word of God. Comparing this to the spiritual life, the truth and the Word of God go hand-in-hand. The Word of God must be handled truthfully. It can be easy to pull verses out of context and make them convey the opposite of what the Scripture is really saying.
Lies can be subtle things that form in thoughts and are often promoted and received without question. Take commercials, for instance. The reason that so much money is poured into them is because they work. Is everything that is stated in a commercial true? Not necessarily. Are the things that are promoted good for you? Not always.
The battlefield of a Christian’s faith begins in the mind. Temptations and wrong thinking must be dealt with through the truth. The way to put on the belt of truth is to meditate on and memorize scripture. If you have problems with fear, look up what God has to say about it. If you are discouraged, find passages that are uplifting. With any topic, see what the Bible says and counteract the lies with truth. Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Pray for the eyes of public officials and citizens of the United States to be open to Jesus as the Truth.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
