Ukraine War Overshadows Talks at G-20

Russia’s Lavrov walks out of the meeting.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is representing the United States at the G-20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia. On Friday, G-20 foreign ministers called for an end to the war and to the grain blockade in Ukraine. Frustrated by what he called the West’s “frenzied criticism” and squandering a chance to tackle global economic problems, Russia’s top diplomat, Sergey Lavrov, walked out of the meeting.

Earlier, Secretary Blinken told a meeting of the G-20 foreign ministers that, if the group is to remain relevant, it must hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine.

The U.S. secretary of state stressed the need to move a global food plan ahead, adding that Russia was trying to undermine multilateral institutions that the United States is seeking to strengthen.

During the plenary session, Secretary Blinken addressed Russia directly, saying, “to our Russian colleagues: Ukraine is not your country. Its grain is not your grain. Why are you blocking the ports? You should let the grain out.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken to be led by the Lord as he represents the U.S. at the summit.
  • For G20 leaders as they discuss global issues and concerns.
  • For a peaceful conclusion to the conflict in Ukraine.
