Position had been vacant for over two years.
President Joe Biden has announced the appointment of Marilynn Malerba to the position of U.S. Treasurer, filling a position that has been empty since January 2020. Malerba is the Mohegan Indian Tribe’s Lifetime Chief and will be overseeing the operations of the U.S. Mint, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, and the storage of gold at Fort Knox. This will be the first time a Native American individual has held this position of leadership in the federal government.
“With this announcement, we are making an even deeper commitment to Indian Country,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in remarks delivered at the Rosebud Sioux reservation. “Chief Malerba will expand our unique relationship with Tribal nations, continuing our joint efforts to support the development of Tribal economies and economic opportunities for Tribal citizens.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Treasurer Malerba as she assumes her new role.
- For Secretary Yellen to look to the Lord for guidance as she manages administration fiscal policy.
- For discernment for the president and his advisors as nominees are reviewed and chosen.
