Leads two roundtable discussions at Montebello High School
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra participated in two roundtables at Montebello High School last week to discuss the impact of social media on youth mental health. Secretary Becerra gave an opening statement in both English and Spanish, then opened up the discussion to the parents, students, and stakeholders to hear how this unique intersection affects both individuals and their communities.
“In the past decade, the number of children and youth diagnosed with mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, has significantly increased, concurrent with significant increases in the amount of time children and youth are spending on social media,” Secretary Becerra said in May. “While there are benefits to social media use, there are clearly risks, too – especially when it comes to mental health.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Becerra as he advocates for youth mental health in the era of social media.
- For discernment for the president and his administration as they address mental health.
- For young people who are struggling with hopelessness or despair to seek assistance.
