Fields questions with surgeon general in virtual meeting.
President Joe Biden, Secretary Xavier Becerra, and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy met virtually with infant formula manufacturing companies on Wednesday to answer questions about the current formula shortage and what can be done to bring it to an end. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has continued to work with Abbott manufacturing since February to speed their plant’s reopening, and Secretary Becerra is continuing to facilitate emergency imports of European formula.
“The last thing we should ever do is allow unsafe formula to be sold to parents,” said President Biden. “Instead, we should increase the production of safe formula to make every American family — so they can get what they need for their child.”
