Hopes that other countries take similar action.
Vice President Kamala Harris announced this week that the United States has become the first nation to commit to not conducting anti-satellite missile (ASAT) testing, and encourages other countries to do the same. ASATs are powerful weapons intended to destroy satellites orbiting the earth, and both Russia and China have already conducted ASAT tests with concerning results.
“The destruction of space objects through direct-ascent ASAT missile testing is reckless and irresponsible,” the White House stated. “The long-lived debris created by these tests now threaten satellites and other space objects that are vital to all nations’ security, economic, and scientific interests, and increases risk to astronauts in space. Overall, these tests jeopardize the long-term sustainability of outer space and imperil the exploration and use of space by all nations.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For U.S. Space Force Guardians as they work to protect the nation’s assets and interests.
- For wisdom for the president and vice president as they receive and act of advice and recommendations of security and intelligence officials.
