Two areas of the Carolinas will be available for lease.
The Department of the Interior announced the completion of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s environmental review of two areas offshore the Carolinas. Offshore wind developers will be able to bid on 110,091 available acres of combined land in Carolina’s Long Bay via auction on May 11. If developed, the areas could provide at least 1.3 gigawatts of energy, enough to power 500,000 homes.
“The upcoming Carolina Long Bay offshore wind energy auction provides yet another excellent opportunity to strengthen the clean energy industry while creating good-paying union jobs,” said Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. “We will continue using every tool in our toolbox to tackle the climate crisis, reduce our emissions to reach the President’s bold goals, and advance environmental justice.”
