Using “abundance of caution” to secure the event.
President Biden is set to give his first State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, and the Capitol Police have begun to prepare for it by reinstalling the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building. They are installing it in conjunction with the Secret Service, and the National Guard reported that they would also be making up to 700 of their members available for extra security before, during, and after the president’s speech.
“Our Department’s mission to protect the United States Congress, the Capitol, and the legislative process remains unwavering,” Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger stated. “In light of the upcoming State of the Union Address, and the possibility of demonstrations in the next couple of weeks, we have been working closely with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners on a security plan to prevent any disruption to the important work of Congress.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president to seek God’s direction as he casts his vision for the country.
- For the Capitol Police as they seek to secure the event from protests or demonstrations.
- For wisdom for members of Congress as they listen and respond to the president’s speech.
