As part of the continuing federal response to the coronavirus outbreak, President Donald Trump is meeting via the phone with executives from various network service companies. These companies will represent America’s information backbone and will likely include internet service providers, cell providers, and other data infrastructure providers.
With the federal guidelines extending to the end of April, and with additional states issuing “Stay-at-home” orders, the ability for Americans to access information and to communicate is paramount. Doctors, first responders, federal and state government officials, and many millions of Americans in other sectors are now working from home and the strain on communications tools and servers has already been felt across the world. For the next few weeks, the uptick of broadband usage is expected to continue to increase. The president will be looking to partner with private companies to best serve the American people through this time.
Following these meetings, the president will update the nation as part of the daily White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing.
