Only one legislator vocally dissented.
A bill that would provide $1 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system was overwhelmingly passed by the House of Representatives in a vote of 420-9 last week. The U.S. has been supporting the development of the Iron Dome system for over a decade. Some members of the majority party that had appeared to waver earlier this year regarding their support for Israel came out strongly for the Middle Eastern ally.
“There are some few that won’t support this, but the overwhelming majority of this Congress — not in a partisan way but in an American way — will support defending the Democratic state of Israel,” said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland. The approved bill will require Senate approval before officially passing and coming into effect.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Senate as they receive this bill and weigh the importance of this funding.
- For members of the House as they face intense debate this week over federal budget and infrastructure legislation.
- That President Biden would continue to support and stand by allies of the U.S.
