Today’s Prayer

O Lord, we pray for religious liberty in the United States today, and we thank You for the freedoms we have, both now and throughout our history, to serve and worship You. These freedoms allow us to openly pray during this week of prayer and renewal, throughout this nation, and we lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith around the world. You have brought America through tremendous trials and adversity. We are grateful for Your hand of protection and guidance that has led U.S. leaders through periods of conflict and unrest. We ask that You would enable those in positions of authority to continue to preserve the right to freely worship You and that they would not establish any belief or philosophy that would overrule the observance or expression of faith in You. We lift this to You in Jesus’ name, amen.

In the United States, our religious AND civil liberties are guaranteed.

Praying for Religious Freedom in America

This nation was founded upon the idea that people ought to be free to worship without interference from government. Today we pray that the liberty to follow the path of faith in God and to practice religious observance would continue to be protected in the United States of America.

The First Amendment is commonly known for it’s protection of free speech, but it initially was put in place to protect religious freedom for all Americans. It established two important protections: the first being that the government should not establish a national or forced religion, and the second being to prevent religious persecution.

By the grace of God this has held through today, but some would try to circumvent the spirit of the law through other legal means, so our freedom should not be taken for granted.

As You Pray, Consider the Following

Pray for lawyers and attorneys who defend the religious freedoms of American citizens. Pray for judges and justices as they make decisions on issues that affect how religious freedoms can be interpreted. Pray for educational boards as they choose what to include in school curriculums. Pray for God’s continued protection and sovereignty over our great nation.
