States desire federal funding to ease healthcare strain.
States are beginning to take drastic measures as coronavirus patient numbers climb exponentially. Governors of Pennsylvania, Texas, California and many others communicated dire need over a conference call with President Trump.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards told the president that if the trajectory kept going as it was, the hospitals of his state could be overwhelmed within a week. California Governor Gavin Newsom said “This is a moment we need to make tough decisions. We need to recognize reality.” Some parts of California are doubling infection rates every four days.
Newsom requested $1 billion dollars in Congressional funding and National Guard units to help oversee the skyrocketing number of cases. Other governors have made similar petitions.
