Several states begin issuing shelter in place orders.
As of Friday over 15,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the United States. So far, more than 150 people have died as a result of the disease. There are currently patients in all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. As a result, several states including California and Illinois have enacted “Shelter in Place” orders to slow the spread of the disease.
The Department of Labor also announced that 281,000 people applied for unemployment aid as a result of the virus. This is the highest rate since 2017. The U.S. economy has also been suffering as a result of the virus. Congress is currently considering a measure that would inject nearly $1 trillion into the economy.
