Jen Psaki
White House Press Secretary
Jennifer Rene Psaki was born in December 1978 in Stamford, Connecticut. She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in English and sociology.
She began her career in the political arena working on election campaigns. She became the Deputy Press Secretary at the White House under President Barack Obama, then was promoted to Deputy Communications Director. She left that position to become senior vice president and managing director at the Washington, D.C., office of a public relations firm. She worked as a political commentator for CNN.
In November 2020, Psaki joined the Biden-Harris transition team. Later she was named White House Press Secretary.
She is married to Greg Mecher, and they have two children.

The White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki provided an update on the situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul. She stated the airport there “is currently open for military flight operations, as well as limited commercial flight operations.”
Ms. Psaki said that over a dozen C-17s have either departed or are en route to Afghanistan and around 1,000 U.S. troops have been deployed. Of the planes that have taken off from Kabul, she stated, “These flights lifted approximately 700 to 800 passengers, and we can confirm 165 of these passengers are American citizens; the rest are a mix of SIV applicants and third-country nationals.”
Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the Department of Defense will provide regular operational updates on the status of evacuations. She said the administration’s focus “has been securing the airport and ensuring that we can begin to expedite flights of both American citizens, SIV applicants, and others out.”
