Pray for our Military
The Space Force is looking for a Chief of Acquisitions. With a $17.4 billion budget, new offensive and defensive space technology must be developed and acquired in order to stay ahead of Chinese, Russian, and other forces orbital assets.
Pray for U.S. military leaders as they place individuals in new posts and determine policies for troops.
Pray for AMERICA’S FREEDOMS
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill mandating schools to require a moment of silence before class each day, allowing students to “reflect and to able to pray as they see fit.” Before signing the legislation behind a placard that read “protect religious liberty,” the governor said, “The idea that you can just push God out of every institution and be successful, I’m sorry, our Founding Fathers did not believe that.”
Give thanks for the stand taken by Governor DeSantis and other governing officials who are protecting religious liberty in U.S. schools.
Pray for AMERICA’S FOREIGN RELATIONS
North Korea’s Leader Kim Jong Un said his country will prepare for both diplomacy and confrontation with the United States. His remarks were made during a speech at a plenary session of the nation’s ruling Worker’s Party, his first political speech this year.
Taliban forces continue to gain footholds as troops withdraw from Afghanistan, and top Pentagon officials told a congressional committee that within two years an international extremist militant group, such as al Qaeda, may regenerate there with enough strength to threaten the American homeland.
Pray for prudence for U.S. officials as they evaluate the consequences of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Pray For AMERICA’S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
The White House has predicted a “summer of joy and freedom” now that the U.S. has administered more than 300 million COVID-19 shots in 150 days. “The results are clear,” a White House fact sheet said, “America is starting to look like America again.”
Employers across the country, both large and small, are debating whether to require vaccinations of their employees. This has become particularly true in agricultural areas where seasonal laborers are employed extensively.
Pray for U.S. health leaders as they monitor variants as the pandemic diminishes and for employers to have discernment about requiring vaccines.
Pray for AMERICA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, during his first cabinet meeting, warned that now is the “last chance for the world powers to wake up” before reviving the Iran nuclear deal. He cautioned that the Iranians are “a regime of brutal hangmen must never be allowed to have weapons of mass destruction that will enable it to not kill thousands, but millions.”
Only a month after the ceasefire, Israel launched airstrikes against the Gaza Strip in response to incendiary balloons rising from the Palestinian territory, which reportedly caused more than two dozen fires in southern Israel.
Pray for Prime Minister Bennett as he takes on the responsibilities for leading his nation.
Pray for AMERICA’S ECONOMY
A new National Association of Realtors report says that construction of new homes in the last two decades has lagged behind historic levels, and the market needs 5.5 million more units to “catch up.” The shortage and increased demand has led to rapid price increases for both new and pre-owned homes.
According to data from the Department of Labor, prices charged for producers of goods and services (developed in the consumer price index) rose 5.3 percent in the 12 months leading into May. The increase is the latest glimpse into a widely expected but politically challenging increase in inflation.
Pray for U.S. economists and advisors as they asses rising inflation and offer recommendations to manage it.
Pray for Justice in America
States across the U.S. are considering legislation related to controlling riots. Iowa’s governor signed that state’s new law that raises the penalty of rioting to a felony, creates legal risks for people who remain at a protest after it becomes unlawful, and adds protections for drivers who injure demonstrators while exercising what the bills describes as “due care.”
Pray for state legislatures as they attempt to protect citizens and property with laws regarding rioting.
Pray for Goodness in America
The American Bible Society’s 2021 State of the Bible reported over an estimated 10 million more Americans turned to the Bible in the past year than in years past. One in four adults reported reading the Bible more frequently during the pandemic compared to the prior year. The group’s director said he believed Americans turned to God’s Word during the pandemic in a search for meaning and comfort.
Pray that these millions of Americans would continue to turn to the Bible and that the Holy Spirit would draw them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray for America’s Education
The Department of Education issued a “Notice of Interpretation” announcing that it has determined that Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibiting discrimination based on sex also “prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” more widely applying the federal law.
Pray for U.S. educators as they determine policy about gender “fluidity” or identifying as other than biological sex.
Pray for America’s Technology
Legislators have introduced bipartisan legislation to limit the power of major tech companies with sweeping antitrust legislation. Representative Lance Gooden of Texas said that these large companies have “no respect for the competitive marketplace. … They actually market their ability to control search engine results and to direct traffic online.”
Pray for America’s legislators as they consider antitrust legislation to combat the excessive influences of large technology companies.
Pray for Needs Across the States
House legislators in Massachusetts unanimously rejected Governor Charlie Baker’s amendments on how the state will spend the remaining $5.1 billion in federal aid. Instead, they approved a proposal that would transfer most of the federal funding to the Legislature, leaving $200 million for the Baker administration to spend as it sees fit.
A Mississippi state audit report found nearly $18 million in improper unemployment insurance payments that occurred due to stolen identities, fraud schemes, and funds that were sent to people in jail. A report from a fraud prevention service said that as much as 50 percent of national stimulus money may have been stolen, primarily due to fraud.
Pray for state leaders attempting to handle misappropriations, misuse, or fraudulently-obtained funds from the coronavirus relief packages and for fraud perpetrators to be brought to justice.
