Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The president’s administration says its plan to expand access to preschool and affordable childcare will help bolster long-term economic growth by making it easier for parents, and especially women, to work. He proposes spending $225 billion over 10 years to subsidize childcare, including capping costs for low- and moderate-income families, boosting pay and training for childcare workers, and providing federal dollars for care centers.
Pray for the administration and the ways in which they direct their attention to the needs of parents of America.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Leading members of the Senate Energy Committee are calling on President Biden to expand forest management ahead of what is expected to be another severe wildfire season. “We need to increase the pace, scope, and scale of the work, not incrementally, but by orders of magnitude,” the senators wrote. “Moreover, our federal land management agencies need new direction and resources to undertake innovative approaches and bring new technologies to our forest management paradigm and our forest products sector.”
Pray for members of Congress as they seek to overcome political and philosophical divisions.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The Supreme Court turned away a free-speech challenge to a federal anti-riot law brought by two members of a militant group who pleaded guilty to crimes related to a deadly 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. They allowed the 2020 ruling of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to stand that said certain portions of the law, including those criminalizing speech that tends to encourage a riot, violate the First Amendment but upheld the convictions because those charges fell under other parts of the law that were constitutional.
A federal judge has halted the administration’s program offering loan forgiveness for minority farmers only stating that the federal government “cannot discriminate on the basis of race.” The program, part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, earmarks about $4 billion for up to 120 percent in debt relief for “socially disadvantaged” farmers and ranchers as defined by their race, not losses sustained during the pandemic or specific claims of actual need.
