States taking precautions
Primaries scheduled for Arizona, Ohio, Illinois and Florida are proceeding, state authorities say.
The states are setting out coronavirus protection plans. States like Florida and Arizona are urging voters to utilize their mail-in ballots by dropping them off at polling stations.
Election officials of Arizona and Illinois released a joint statement stating they are “working closely with our state health officials to ensure that our poll workers and voters can be confident that voting is safe.”
Ohio’s Governor Mike DeWine officially recommended canceling in-person voting for the state’s scheduled March 17 presidential primary to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 VIRUS. “We cannot tell people to stay inside, but also tell them to go out and vote,” he said in a tweet.
In Louisiana, the presidential preference primary has been moved from April 4 to June 20, and the state’s general election scheduled for May 9 has been rescheduled to July 25.
