Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of Homeland Security is launching “Operation Sentinel” which will focus not only on cutting off international crime organizations funding but on the actual operations of smuggling. “Operation Sentinel will focus on disrupting the transnational criminal organizations that smuggle migrants into the United States,” said Alejandro Mayorkas, DHS Secretary.
Vice President Kamala Harris met virtually with the president of Guatemala to discuss economic challenges, migration, and plans to increase U.S. humanitarian relief to the area. She offered an additional $310 million to address food insecurity in the region, as the Central American nation is trying to recover from hurricanes, drought, and COVID-19 infections. She said it is these conditions that have caused many to leave their homes despite preferring to stay.
Pray for wisdom and caution for administration officials as they deal with matters of immigration and with the nations from which many of the migrants come.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said the U.S. “childcare system is on the brink of complete collapse” and that her $700 billion universal childcare bill could be funded by a wealth tax. “If this pandemic has shown us nothing else, it has shown us the critical importance of parents having access to dependable childcare,” she said.
Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, said the House will include a permanent expansion of the child tax credit in legislation based on the administration’s forthcoming family-focused plan.
Pray for members of both houses of Congress as they look to provide increased or additional services to families and the best means of paying for the new programs.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
According to documents from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the FBI has looked through troves of National Security Agency foreign communications for information on American “racially motivated violent extremists” without the benefit of warrants. It is up to the FISA court to approve warrants for such investigations, which makes the probes concerning and constitutionally questionable.
A U.S. District Court judge said that Connecticut’s policy that allows students to compete in high school sports according to their gender identity is safe, dismissing a sex discrimination lawsuit filed by female students as not “justifiable at this time.”
Pray for the Supreme Court justices who are wrapping up the writing of opinions on cases they have heard this term and deciding the new cases they will hear in the fall.
