The thunder of his power, who can understand. – Job 26:14
From the most ancient of days, humans have ascribed great power to various mythical gods who threw lightning bolts about. The Greek Zeus or Roman Jupiter are most well known. But Job knew who stilled the seas, made the earth and skies, and caused the heavens to tremble… he knew God Almighty. And Job marveled at God’s great power.
Lightning and what causes it has long been studied, and along with it, a meager mention of the resultant thunder. But more recently, scientific studies of thunder have revealed that less than ten percent of the sounds of thunder is audible to human ears. And considerable damage can be caused by the high-frequency components of the thunder. Sound waves as much as five miles from their lightning source have killed cattle and done structural damage to buildings. So, yes, there is power in thunder. But what about the power of God? What thunder does it create? How does it resonate in your life?
In His mighty power, God can turn a heart of stone into one of flesh. He can turn lives upside down. He is exalted above the heavens. What power has He shown in your life? He saved you from the eternal damnation of hell. He created an amazing plan for your life. Your highest thoughts cannot begin to explain Him. So, remove the blinders from your eyes, and see His power manifested each day in ways seen from microscope to telescope, and within your own frame. “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
Praise Him with great awe today. Intercede for many among the nation’s leaders who take the power of God for granted. Ask that the Lord would reveal Himself to them in the tiniest of whispers or in the loudest peal of thunder, so that their attention will be drawn to Him.
Today’s Verse: Job 26:14
“Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways,
and how small a whisper do we hear of him!
But the thunder of his power who can understand?“

“How you have helped
him who has no power!
How
you have saved the arm that has no strength!
3 How you

4 With whose help have
you uttered words,

whose breath has come out from you?
5 The dead tremble
under
the waters and their inhabitants.
6 Sheol is naked
