Ask for commitment from President Biden to sharing the surplus.
30 non-governmental organizations sent a joint letter to President Biden on Friday. Aid organizations such as the Catholic Relief Services, Save the Children, and the ONE campaign shared their calculations predicting a COVID-19 surplus in the United States in the range of hundreds of millions and requested that surplus be distributed globally.
“Vaccine hoarding could cost the global economy up to $9.2 trillion,” the groups wrote to the president. “Given the optimistic outlook for vaccinating most Americans in the next few months and the huge number of excess doses the U.S. has in its pipeline, the U.S. is uniquely positioned to accelerate the global response to the pandemic by sharing vaccines,”
