Plans to model fact-finding mission after 9/11 commission.
On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives would take its next step into analyzing the events that took place on January 6 when people illegally entered the Capitol to interrupt the certification of electoral college votes. Speaker Pelosi said that in order “To protect our security… our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission.”
The commission would, according to the speaker, “investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex.” She also said that the commission would look into how the peaceful transfer of power may have been interfered with due to actions taken by the Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies.
