Issue 476 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

As part of the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, President Biden has requested a $15 federal minimum wage. He is hopeful that, with the Congressional majority, the votes will be there to pass it.

United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said that climate policies are not taking jobs away from coal workers. “Coal plants have been closing over the last 20 years,” he said, adding, “What’s happening to them is happening because of other market forces already taking place.”

Pray for the president and his administration as they evaluate the economic impact of the decisions they make.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

It appears that the Senate has reached a “power-sharing” agreement that does not call for an end to the filibuster for the duration of this Congress.  “The issue, as far as I’m concerned, is resolved,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Representatives Jamila Jayapal of Washington and Jesus Chuy Garcia of Illinois reintroduced legislation decriminalizing illegal border crossings, known as the “New Way Forward Act,” to deliver “a real, humane reform of our immigration system.”

Pray that America’s congressional members will seek harmony and bipartisan cooperation to accomplish what is best for America.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court declined to hear a case regarding how far states can go without violating religious freedom when they impose restrictions on attendance at worship services to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear a major case on student speech, granting a Pennsylvania school district’s appeal of a lower court ruling that had overturned the discipline of a high school student who posted a vulgar message on a social media site in a dispute involving her cheerleading team.

Pray for the Supreme Court Justices to be guided by truth and justice given from God as they interpret the Constitution and U.S. law when hearing cases involving individual freedoms.
