Lawmakers propose one-third stimulus that President Biden supports.
As the first month of 2021 came to a close with no new stimulus payments approved since December, President Biden met with a group of senators on Monday to discuss the next round of aid to Americans. President Biden has pitched a $1.9 trillion package that would include $1400 direct payments. The senators’ counterproposal is one-third the size at $160 billion.
The goal of the alternate bill is to focus more directly on the health effects of the pandemic – setting aside funding for vaccine distribution. The bill also reduces direct payments to $1000 and removes aid dollars to state and local governments. Press Secretary Psaki stated that there is a “big gap” between the president and the senators’ proposal, but the meeting would be an honest “exchange of ideas.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the White House and Congress as they work together to pass needed aid for Americans.
- That Congress would have wisdom as they consider the vote on relief bills.
- For God to accomplish His will through President Biden’s administration.
