The president’s administration made strides on Wednesday toward moving the nation away from carbon-based fuels as President Biden signed new executive orders designed to halt the negative effects of climate change. The new orders double the amount of electricity created through offshore wind turbines and cut subsidies to oil, gas, and coal energy producers.
Included in the actions is a directive to change the federal government’s fleet of vehicles to all-electric over the next ten years. The president has publicly stated that he wants to cut all carbon emissions by 2050. According to the White House, “both significant short-term global emission reductions and net-zero global emissions by mid-century – or before – are required to avoid setting the world on a dangerous, potentially catastrophic, climate trajectory.”
