For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd and he will guide them to springs of living water. – Revelation 7:17
Shepherds are featured in both the Old and New Testaments. Shepherd is mentioned in the Bible 111 times, sheep 198, and lamb 191. Many Bible scholars say when you see repetition in the Bible, pay attention! The beloved Psalm 23 relates that God is like a good shepherd taking care of His sheep. In the New Testament, the angels announced the birth to shepherds. Jesus said He was the Good Shepherd who gave His life for His sheep (John 10:11). He also said His sheep know His voice. (John 10:27).
If you have given your life to Jesus, you heard the Shepherd. And like the Shepherd in Psalm 23, He promises to guide you and take care of you. Things may seem to be going crazy with Christmas over, the great divide between political parties, and COVID not yet a thing of the past. If you’re like many, January of a new year is a time to evaluate your past year and set goals for the next one. This year, planning may seem a daunting task when there’s so much happening beyond your control. Pray to the One who has the power to change your circumstances.
Revelation speaks of Jesus being the Shepherd of those who will be martyred during the Great Tribulation. It may seem like an odd analogy: the Lamb is a Shepherd. Of course, it refers to Jesus being the sacrificial Lamb for the forgiveness of sin. Pray that the people of the United States will receive this salvation and be ready for the second coming of the Shepherd Lamb.
Today’s Verse: Revelation 7:17
For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
