Today, President Donald Trump is meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a working lunch. They are expected to discuss the secretary’s recent trip to the Middle East where he met with leaders from Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Leaders from each of these nations expressed concerns about maintaining stability and regional security in the midst of increased tensions with Iran, as well as Iran’s rededication to its nuclear program and recent aggressive behavior.
Secretary Pompeo said of the meetings, “We share a key foreign policy insight. We’re realists; we see the world as it is and recognize the violent nature of the revolutionary Iranian regime.” Speaking on Tuesday in a joint statement with Bahraini Foreign Minister Al Zayani, Secretary Pompeo spoke about the cooperation of multiple nations in applying pressure on Iran and added, “I’m very confident that what we’re doing today, this dialogue and the sessions that will follow, will lay a foundation for more successes, and frankly an even stronger alliance.”
