Not yet certain if it is viable for lunar base.
NASA announced this week that it had observed frozen water in the Clavius crater on the Moon. The discovery was found with the space agency’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) which is a modified Boeing 747 able to take highly detailed photos of objects in the universe free from distortions from the Earth’s atmosphere.
In a press release, NASA stated, “Data from this location reveal water in concentrations of 100 to 412 parts per million — roughly equivalent to a 12-ounce bottle of water — trapped in a cubic meter of soil spread across the lunar surface.” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine clarified that “We don’t know yet if we can use it as a resource.”
