DHS Opens Center for Countering Human Trafficking

Investigation unit supports law enforcement to uncover those trapped in forced, exploitive labor.

On Tuesday, Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf announced the opening of the Center for Countering Human Trafficking. The operations center directly supports federal criminal investigations, analysis of intelligence, victim assistance, and outreach and training regarding forced labor and human trafficking.

“Human trafficking is modern day slavery. There is no other way to say it,” said Acting Secretary Wolf. “The words are strong because the actions are evil. The forms of exploitation, sex trafficking, forced labor, and domestic servitude that constitute human trafficking are antithetical in every way to the principles of human dignity that Americans hold dear. The launch of this Center for Countering Human Trafficking represents the investment of resources, attention, and time by President Trump to combat and dismantle all forms of human trafficking.”

The center is located in Washington, D.C., under the umbrella of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and has a mission of “prevention, protection, prosecution and partnerships.” The DHS press release states, “The Center will build on the agency’s ‘victims first’ approach, which balances victim identification, rescue and support with prevention, investigation, and prosecution of traffickers.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That victims of human trafficking would be liberated and perpetrators brought to justice through the center.
  • For wisdom for Acting Secretary Wolf as he leads Homeland Security.
  • For ICE as they seek to ensure the safety of those in America, particularly the immigrant population.
