The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps. – Proverbs 14:15
In no other time in history has today’s verse been more relevant. Everyone is bombarded constantly with messages from television, newspapers, social media, and online articles and advertisements. Most people know you can’t believe everything you see and hear, but skilled writers can be very persuasive. The words can seem true or enticing, but the people behind the words usually have their own interests in mind over yours.
On the other hand, the Bible is God’s Word. Its purpose is for God’s glory as well as what is best for you. Jesus is the personification of God’s Word and truth. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). How important it is to put your faith in Jesus, seek after Him and all that He holds to be right and good! As you study God’s Word and seek to understand what He declares important, it’s easier to discern what is true amongst the onslaught of ideas everyone faces today.
Don’t be gullible, but consider all you hear, checking the sources to see if they are reliable. Before you act on something, do a little research. Some ads pressure you to act immediately, because if you would give it some thought, you’d probably walk away. As the election approaches, don’t believe everything media sends your way. Do your research. Bathe your vote in prayer and study of the Scripture. Pray that the men and women God chooses will be put in office.

but the prudent gives thought to his steps.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,
‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and
‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,
‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
