Choose not to over-react.
Psalm 4:4 – Be angry, and do not sin, ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.
As you listen to some in the political arena and the media, you wonder if they aren’t striving to get people to be highly emotional when they go to the polls. Some even seem to want the chaos to continue, at least through the election, so that people will be angry. Or they deride one candidate or another with accusations that are false on their face in order to stir up resentment, bitterness, or indignation.
When you feel as though you are succumbing to these taunts, remind yourself of 2 Timothy 1:7 where God has given you a spirit of power and of a sound mind (or self-discipline). Take a deep breath and check those emotions. They don’t belong anywhere near a ballot box!
Pray With Us
Precious Father, I thank You that even when times are difficult and rage and chaos seem to have taken hold everywhere, there are still things I can do to stay separate from negative emotions. Help keep me focused on You and on the peace that passes all understanding that I find in relationship with You. Help me think and act in ways that bring honor to You, and forgive me for the times I have fallen short. You are so gracious, Lord, and I love You,
Amen.
