Serve One Another

Looking for the quality of life?

Isaiah 58:10 – If you pour yourself out for the hungry, and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.

What kind of quality of life do you want to have? That is a question being asked by both sides of the political spectrum this year, with both sides alleging they have the right and proper answer for you.

The Bible teaches you that the quality of your life is often in direct relationship to how you serve others. The verses that follow today’s verse in Isaiah say, “And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations. You shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.” What a glowing picture of a life that is satisfying, healthy, safe, and of benefit now and into the future—and you get there by serving others.

Galatians 6:10 urges, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”  The template for a quality of life is there. Are you following it?

Pray With Us

Gracious Lord, You know my tendency to look too much at my own life and not enough to the lives of others around me. I know that, even among my friends, there is need, hurts, fears, and frustrations. You are the source of everything that is good. Help me to have the same love for others that You have toward them—and toward me. Give me the opportunity to do good for their benefit. You are a good, good Father, and I worship You!

Amen.
