Gives speech in Ethiopia
Secretary Pompeo finished his three-country tour of Africa on Wednesday delivering a speech to an Ethiopian audience in Addis Ababa. During his remarks, he warned the audience to be careful how much they partnered with China saying, “Be wary of authoritarian regimes and their empty promises.” He went on to express that an economic partnership with the U.S. would lead to “true liberation.”
China has been investing vast sums of money into various African countries through their “belt and road” initiative, that seeks to loan money to governments for infrastructure projects designed to boost the local economies of developing nations. Secretary Pompeo did not announce any new American partnerships for the time being but encouraged further development of trade relationships with American businesses.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That God would use Secretary Pompeo to grow the relationship between the U.S. and African nations.
- That the State Department would find meaningful working relationships with China.
- That the Secretary would be safe on his journey back to the U.S.
