DOT Repeals Emissions Rule Affecting Highway Projects

The transportation secretary announced a rollback of a greenhouse measure, citing cost and legal concerns.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has officially repealed a greenhouse gas emissions performance measure that would have required states to track and reduce carbon emissions from federally funded highway projects. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy described the rule as unlawful and burdensome, stating that it could delay infrastructure improvements by diverting funds from core transportation needs.

The measure, initially rescinded during President Trump’s first term but reinstated by President Biden’s administration, had been challenged in court. Federal judges found that the department lacked the authority to enforce it.

The withdrawal of the rule aligns with broader efforts by the Transportation Department to focus on safety, efficiency, and regulatory reform.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Duffy as he reviews the rules and regulations of the Transportation Department.
  • For U.S. transportation officials as they seek to ensure the nation’s roads are safe and in good repair.
