Congress Seeks $27 Billion for Golden Dome

The missile system would be a portion of the $150 billion defense package.

Legislators in Congress are preparing to introduce a $150 billion defense package, which would allocate $27 billion toward President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome initiative.

Drawing inspiration from Israel’s Iron Dome, the Golden Dome missile system would install missile interceptors with enough power to reach altitudes close to space across the country. However, since it would be significantly larger in scope than Israel’s, it would be far more expensive.

Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, stated that the Golden Dome would be worth its $27 billion down payment, as it would need much more funding to be completed.

“Strength, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, will make China less eager to break the status quo, which has led to a vast global prosperity among people who’ve never had it before. This is part of a plan to prevent war,” Senator Wicker said.
