U.S. Northern Command Accepts Extension of Military Area Along Southern Border

The extension of the Army’s Fort Huachuca border authorizes the search and detention of illegals in New Mexico.

U.S. Northern Command announced this week that American troops “have been delegated the authority” to detain and search immigrants on military-controlled land in New Mexico.

While federal law does not allow American troops to participate in the nation’s law enforcement, President Trump’s administration has extended the area of the Army’s Fort Huachuca in Arizona into the New Mexico National Defense Area. The acceptance of federal land by the Defense Department from other federal agencies allows troops to conduct law enforcement operations on military land and turn detainees over to the proper civilian agencies.

“Our southern border is under attack from a variety of threats,” President Donald Trump said in the memorandum ordering the transition. “The complexity of the current situation requires that our military take a more direct role in securing our southern border than in the recent past.”

“Through these enhanced authorities, U.S. Northern Command will ensure those who illegally trespass in the New Mexico National Defense Area are handed over to Customs and Border Protection or our other law enforcement partners,” Commander General Gregory Guillot stated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For General Guillot to be prudent as he commands the U.S. Northern Command.
  • For military personnel as they take security jurisdiction of the extended Army for area.
  • For President Trump and members of his Cabinet as they seek to increase national security.
