President Attends Funeral of Pope Francis

Today, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are attending the state funeral of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican in Italy. The pope passed away on Monday of cardiac failure due to a stroke after experiencing a prolonged respiratory illness.

After the Catholic pontiff’s death, President Trump stated, “Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!” The president called Pope Francis “a very good man who loved, loved the world, and he especially loved people that were having a hard time.”

Vice President JD Vance, who had briefly met with the pope on Easter Sunday, stated, “I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill.” He said, “My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him.”
