U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the Election Assistance Commission must stop its attempt to implement proof of citizenship for voter registration, blocking President Donald Trump’s executive order on the subject.
The president’s order directed the commission to require “documentary proof of United States citizenship” on the federal mail voter registration form.
Three separate groups filed lawsuits over five provisions of President Trump’s election integrity order, which he signed last month. Judge Kollar-Kotelly declined to block three provisions, granting the two that pertained to proof of citizenship. The second provision required federal agencies that offer voter registration to “assess” a recipient’s citizenship status before preferring the registration.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For federal judges who are hearing challenges to the president’s orders and actions to rule according to the law and the Constitution.
- For wisdom for President Trump and members of his administration as they implement their agenda.
