He says there is no true clean energy as all energy production involves a trade-off.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright spoke on Earth Day about the need for energy produced through coal, natural gas, and oil, pointing to smarter energy solutions that have improved the environment.
Secretary Wright said, “The return of wildlife, the cleaning up air, the cleaning of our water are truly something to celebrate, and they’ve been driven by wealth and by increasing energy available in societies.“
However, he stated that the financial incentives through tax credits for the production of “clean energy” do not accomplish what they claim.
“I think it’s a big mistake,” Secretary Wright said. “That term ‘clean energy’ is just a marketing term. There’s no clean energy. All energy sources involve trade-offs. … Solar and wind take over 100 times more land, 10 times more steel and cement and heavy materials to produce. There’s no clean energy; there’s just different trade-offs.”
The secretary said. “At the end of the day, the result of [variable weather-dependent energy sources] has been more expensive electricity in the United States, less reliable grid, and the continual outsourcing of energy-intensive jobs out of our country.”
Secretary Wright also addressed global warming, stating, “Ten times more people die of the cold every year than die of the warm. So a little bit warmer planet means a little less risky for human beings. Of course, there’s positives to global warming and there’s negatives too.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Wright as he heads the Department of Energy.
- For U.S. energy officials as they promote increased domestic energy production.
