Federal funding to Cornell and Northwestern has been frozen while the Education Department investigates campus policies.
The Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism under President Trump’s administration announced this week that it is freezing $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard University after the Ivy League school publicly refused to implement institutional changes required by the federal government.
The administration stated that Harvard “failed to live up to both the intellectual and civil rights conditions that justify federal investment.”
The task force stated, “The harassment of Jewish students is intolerable. It is time for elite universities to take the problem seriously and commit to meaningful change if they wish to continue receiving taxpayer support.”
The administration sent a letter to Harvard last week outlining a number of changes to hiring policies and student policies. Some of these changes include implementing “merit-based” admissions, conducting an audit to determine views on diversity within the faculty and student body, and banning the use of face masks on campus, often used by protesters to conceal their identity.
Columbia University agreed to comply with the administration’s requirements for campus policies last month to reinstate funding that had been frozen. Investigations are also being conducted by the Department of Education into policies at Cornell and Northwestern and federal funding to those two universities has also been suspended.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to ensure college campuses are safe for all students.
- For Secretary Linda McMahon as she oversees the Education Department’s investigations into universities’ anti-semitic policies.
