Secretary of Agriculture to Address Bird Flu Outbreak

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins is making a tour of farms across the nation. She is monitoring her department’s response to the bird flu outbreak that led to the killing of millions of chickens, spiking costs of both chicken and eggs.

Senator Dave McCormick and Representatives Glenn Thompson, Dan Meuser, and Rob Bresnahan joined the USDA secretary for a tour and roundtable event in Pennsylvania this week. Secretary Rollins said, “Ensuring we have the best research and the best researchers, that we’re able to produce the safest and best food supply in the world, that is our goal, and certainly for our chicken farmers and our egg layers, that’s at the very top of the priority list, especially right now.”

The USDA secretary addressed uncertainty around tariffs and trade, saying, “It is a system that is fundamentally dysfunctional and does not work for American producers and American agriculture, and President Trump, frankly, is one of the few or only that has been willing to stand up and say ‘no more.'”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rollins as she pursues policies to support farmers and ranchers and prevent the spread of avian flu.
  • For discernment for members of the House and Senate as they consider the next Farm Bill.
  • For President Donald Trump to receive the Lord’s wisdom as he implements economic and agricultural policies.
