Supreme Court Prepares to Hear Arguments

President Donald Trump is at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, today.

The justices of the Supreme Court will hold a conference day this week. They will resume hearing oral arguments after Easter.

The high court has allowed President Trump’s administration to remove independent regulators as a lawsuit proceeds. The justices placed a stay on a federal judge’s block of the administration’s firing of thousands of probationary workers, saying the plaintiffs lacked standing.

The justices lifted a district judge’s block of the deportation of Venezuelan nationals under the Alien Enemies Act. The ruling directed the president’s administration to provide deportees notices of planned removal and the opportunity for a legal challenge.

Chief Judge Roberts also placed a hold on a lower court deadline to return a Salvadoran gang member who was deported while requiring the government to “facilitate“ his release from custody. The opinion stated the lower court’s order to “effectuate” his return may have exceeded its authority.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump and members of his administration to seek God’s wisdom as they implement policies and programs.
  • For discernment for the justices of the Supreme Court as they hear appeals to lower court decisions, rulings, and requests for stays and injunctions.
  • For senators and representatives in Congress as they work in their home districts the next two weeks.
