Secretary Hegseth Cuts $5.1 Billion in Defense Department Contracts

He announced that IT consulting and management will be “in-sourced.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum on Thursday to continue eliminating wasteful spending at the Department of Defense. The memo directs the Defense Department to terminate service contracts with third-party IT contractors and consulting firms, saying these contracts represent “non-essential spending.”

Secretary Hegseth also pledged that the department will create a plan within 30 days to in-source IT consulting and management services through its civilian workforce. He expects the savings to be reallocated into “critical priorities to Revive the Warrior Ethos, Rebuild the Military, and Reestablish Deterrence.”

“If you’re keeping score at home, today’s cuts bring our running total to nearly $6 billion in wasteful spending over the first six weeks of the Department of Government Efficiency effort here at the Defense Department,” Secretary Hegseth said. “We want to thank our friends at DOGE. We want to thank all the folks here that have helped us unpack this, reveal it, and we’re excited to make these cuts on behalf of you, the taxpayer, and the warfighters at the Department,”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Hegseth to be discerning as he evaluates the expenditures of the Defense Department and reallocates funding.
  • For President Trump and the Cabinet secretaries as they attempt to reduce federal spending.
  • For DOGE personnel as they continue to audit government departments and agencies.
