Defense Secretary Announces Expanded Partnership with Panama

He held a joint press conference with Panamanian Public Security Minister Frank Abrego to announce cooperative security understanding.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth held a joint press conference with Panamanian Public Security Minister Frank Abrego this past week to announce that the United States and Panama have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperative security in the area.

The memorandum also promises that an additional declaration will be made in the near future allowing U.S. warships and auxiliary ships to travel “first and free” through the Panama Canal.

“The Panama Canal is key terrain that must be secured by Panama, with America, and not China,” Secretary Hegseth said. “These documents reaffirm our historic ties and outline how we will deepen our relationship and strengthen bilateral canal security cooperation.“

The defense secretary added that the renewed U.S. relationship with Panama will support “a hemisphere that is secure, prosperous, and full of sovereign nations.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Hegseth to be led by the Lord as he heads the Defense Department.
  • For Pentagon officials to be prudent as they provide recommendations to the president and defense secretary.
