IRS Official Steps Down Over DOGE Access to Information

DOGE officials to create a tech bridge that allows software systems to cross-reference data.

Acting Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Melanie Krause stepped down this week citing the data-sharing agreement reached between the agency and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). President Trump’s administration announced that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem signed an agreement allowing ICE to submit the names and addresses of illegal immigrants to the IRS to cross-verify tax records. Krause had helped to draft the agreement, but the details of the final draft were different.

Secretary Bessent is overseeing the effort to modernize the IRS systems, pausing previous efforts that have run over deadlines and budgets. DOGE official Sam Corcos said, “We’ve so far stopped work and cut about $1.5 billion from the modernization budget. Mostly projects that were going to continue to put us down the death spiral of complexity in our code base.” Now the plan is to build one “mega API” (application programming interface) to facilitate the exchange of data between applications and platforms.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Bessent and IRS officials as they work with DOGE personnel to update and upgrade the IRS systems.
  • For President Donald Trump and members of his administration as they pursue strategies to save taxpayer dollars and reduce government spending.
