The EU is matching President Trump’s 90-day pause and preparing for trade negotiations.
President Donald Trump implemented dozens of steep tariffs last week, largely implementing half the percentage of the charges other countries and international organizations charge the U.S., including the European Union and its 27 member countries. After President Trump paused those tariffs this week, limiting them to 10 percent during trade negotiations during the next 90 days, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a pause on EU tariffs against the United States and indicated the hope of negotiating future trade policy.
“We took note of the announcement by President Trump. We want to give negotiations a chance,” President von der Leyen stated. “While finalising the adoption of the EU countermeasures that saw strong support from our Member States, we will put them on hold for 90 days.”
“If negotiations are not satisfactory, our countermeasures will kick in. Preparatory work on further countermeasures continues,” she continued. “As I have said before, all options remain on the table.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and his trade officials as they set up meetings to negotiate new trade agreements.
- For U.S. officials to be discerning as they prepare to discuss trade agreements with international partners.
