Senator Calls for Investigation of District Judge

Judge Boasberg was not the emergency assignment judge for the Tren de Aragua case he took.

Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri announced an investigation into case assignments for district court judicial cases after information emerged that Judge James Boasberg was not the judge assigned to the Tren de Aragua case he took up against President Trump’s administration. The senator pointed out that Judge Boasberg was on vacation, but ended up handling a case that was filed at 2:30 am on a Saturday.

Senator Schmitt queried, “How did Judge Boasberg get the TdA case when he wasn’t the emergency assignment judge on March 15? Did he use his position as Chief Judge to force himself onto the case? The American people are demanding answers. I’ll be filing legislation to require random case assignments.”

“Somehow, he ended up with that case. He wasn’t the emergency judge on duty, so I think this requires further investigation and legislation,” he added. “The emergency judges 100% of the time get those cases. So he could have been tipped off that this was going to be filed, and while on vacation, he took the case.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for senators and representatives as they seek to hold judicial officials accountable.
  • For district judges to hear and rule on the cases before them according to their jurisdictional authority and uphold federal law and the Constitution.
