President Trump responds to China increasing tariffs.
The White House reported on Monday that over 50 nations have been in touch with the White House to negotiate regarding the reciprocal tariffs that he put in place last week. Many of the tariffs were “discounted” as most of the top trading partners did not have the same percentage levied against them as they charge the U.S.
“More than 50 countries have reached out to the president to begin a negotiation,” said National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett. “They’re doing that because they understand that they bear a lot of the tariff.” The countries that have expressed interest in negotiations include India, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Israel, Vietnam, Japan, Argentina, and Cambodia. President Ursula Von der Leyen of the European Commission has also indicated willingness to negotiate tariffs on industrial goods.
However, China issued 35 percent retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. over the weekend. President Trump stated on Monday, “If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th.“
The president’s statement continued, “Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump to receive God’s wisdom as he places and negotiates tariffs.
- For the president and administration officials as they seek to support the American economy, and increase employment and domestic production.
