Vice President Celebrates His Mother’s Ten Year Sobriety

He held a private ceremony at the White House and presented her with a challenge coin from President Trump.

Vice President JD Vance celebrated with his mother Beverly Aikins’ decade of sobriety on Friday at the White House. They were joined by friends and family in the Roosevelt Room for a private ceremony as she received a presidential challenge coin to commemorate the milestone that she achieved in January.

“This year marks my mom’s 10th year of sobriety, and I’m grateful that we were able to celebrate in the White House with our family,” Vice President Vance stated Monday, posting photos from the event. “Mom, I am so proud of you.”

His mother had been a nurse who gradually progressed from prescription drug use to heroin during the vice president’s childhood.

“This is one of the president’s challenge coins,” the vice president said to his mom during the event. “He asked me to give this to you. And I will say that I love you, and I’m so glad that we’re here. I love you.”

“I meet a lot of people who think that there is no other side for those who suffer from addiction,” Vice President Vance said at the event. “Unfortunately, we know that for some, that’s true, but for many, there is another side.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Vice President Vance and his family as they celebrate his mother’s recovery and sobriety.
  • For Americans who are struggling with addiction and for their families as they deal with the difficulties and suffering surrounding it.
