The storm system began last week and continued through the weekend.
The National Weather Service reported that a large storm system will continue to impact the Mississippi River Valley this week. Warnings of thunderstorms, severe winds, flooding, and tornados continued into Monday for parts of the South and Midwest. The storm system has caused the deaths of at least 20 people since it began last week, including residents from the states of Georgia, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Missouri.
The service forecast “moderate to heavy rain and strong to severe thunderstorms” from parts of Virginia to the Gulf Coast. The NWS stated, “Unlike the past several days, the rain that falls on Monday should not be overly excessive; however, isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding cannot be ruled out.”
Some state officials have warned of river flooding, urging people to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!”
