The department returned the money to the general fund to finance the federal government.
The Department of Labor recently announced that it returned $1.4 billion in unused funding from COVID-19 relief programs to the general fund of the Treasury Department, allowing it to be used for government expenditures. Department officials estimate that $2.9 billion may remain unused within the COVID-era programs, which were designated to help small businesses continue to pay their employees during the pandemic shutdown.
“Any money still sitting around for pandemic-era unemployment funds is a clear misuse of Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars,” Labor Secretary Chavez-DeRemer said. “I’m keeping my promise to be a good steward of your money by rooting out waste to ensure American Workers always come First.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to be led by God as she heads the Department of Labor.
- For U.S. labor officials as they evaluate the return excess federal funding from pandemic-era legislation.
